Glenn A. Oclassen Appointed to Dermatology Foundation Executive Committee

Glenn A. Oclassen, a longtime leader in the dermatologic pharmaceutical industry, has been appointed to the Executive Committee of the Dermatology Foundation. The Oclassen family has been prominent in this industry since 1950 when Charles A. Oclassen founded Westwood Pharmaceuticals, one of the first skincare drug companies. In 1985 Charles’ son, Glenn A. Oclassen, founded Oclassen Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a dermatologic drug development and marketing company. Mr. Oclassen is currently Chairman and CEO of TransOral Pharmaceuticals and a member of the Board of Directors of Connetics Corporation and Procyte Corporation.

“Glenn Oclassen is the first lay member elected to the Foundation’s Executive Committee in our 39 year history,” says Bruce U. Wintroub, M.D., Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. “We asked him to join us for three reasons…His unique and in-depth experience in the creation of new therapeutics to serve the needs of dermatologists and their patients…The  personal commitment and support he has shown the Foundation in creating a $1 million trust in honor of his father, Charles A. Oclassen, another giant in his industry, as well as making generous contributions in his own name…And his expertise in creating relationships between the pharmaceutical industry and the profession of dermatology; particularly with the Dermatology Foundation. We are counting on Mr. Oclassen to work with us in developing an even more productive relationship with the dermatologic pharmaceutical industry,” Dr. Wintroub concluded.

The Dermatology Foundation was created by a group of concerned dermatologists in 1964 to advance patient care through research. The nonprofit organization receives approximately half of its financial support from dermatologists and half from industry. Over 90% of contributions received are devoted to present and future support of a broad-based program of research investigations, clinical and scientific publications, and continuing medical education programs for practicing dermatologists.
