Anita C. Gilliam, M.D., Ph.D. Appointed to Dermatology Foundation Executive Committee

Anita C. Gilliam, M.D., Ph.D., Associate Professor of Dermatology and Pathology and Director of Dermatopathology at Case Western Reserve University and the University Hospitals of Cleveland, Ohio, has been appointed to the Executive Committee of the Dermatology Foundation.  After earning her Ph.D. and M.D. from the University of Texas, Gilliam did postdoctoral work at Yale and the University of Pennsylvania.  Since then, as an academic dermatopathologist with training in molecular biology, immunology, hematology, and oncology, Gilliam has continued to make significant contributions to the understanding of systemic scleroderma and graft-versus-host disease.

“As part of its mission to be representative of the full specialty, the Foundation’s Executive Committee seeks out members from all areas of dermatology,” says Jouni J. Uitto, M.D., Ph.D., and President.  “The perspective Dr. Gilliam brings to the committee as a working dermatopathologist will be an invaluable addition in developing the Foundation’s core scientific programs.”

The Dermatology Foundation was created by a group of concerned dermatologists in 1964 to advance patient care through research.  The nonprofit organization raises funds from members of the specialty and the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries to support a broad-based program of research investigations, clinical and scientific publications, and continuing medical education programs for dermatologists currently in practice.
