MCBURNEY CHOSEN AS 2000 PRACTITIONER OF THE YEAR BY DERMATOLOGY FOUNDATION
Elizabeth I. McBurney, M.D. has been selected as the Practitioner of the Year by the Trustees of the Dermatology Foundation. Dr. McBurney is in practice in Slidell, LA and also serves as a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Louisiana State University School of Medicine and the Tulane University School of Medicine.
An outstanding dermatologist, lecturer and speaker, Dr. McBurney received her M.D. degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine and completed her dermatology residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. She is board certified in dermatology and internal medicine. Her special interests include dermatologic laser surgery and cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.
In 1982, she served as Chairperson and organizer of "Lasers in Dermatology," the first laser course presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology.
Dr. McBurney received the AADs Everett C. Fox Lectureship Award for Outstanding Clinician in 1998 and was honored by the AMA in 1990 with their Distinguished Woman Physician Award. She is a former member of the Board of Directors of the AAD and served as President of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery in 1996-97.
Dr. McBurney was recently elected to the Board of the American Dermatologic Association and currently serves as Chairperson of the AAD Section on Education, Evaluation and Scientific Assembly.
The author of 31 articles in refereed medical journals and 10 chapters in books, Dr. McBurney is a member of the editorial board of Cutaneous Laser Surgery and a former editorial board member of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. She served as a Trustee of the Dermatology Foundation from 1991 to 1993 and is the current State Chair for the Louisiana DF Leaders Society Campaign.
Dr. McBurney will receive her Practitioner of the Year Award at the Dermatology Foundations Annual Meeting on Saturday, March 3, during the AAD Annual Meeting in Washington, DC.
The Dermatology Foundation was created in 1964 by a group of concerned dermatologists in order to advance patient care through research. The nonprofit organization raises funds from members of the specialty and cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry to support a broad-based program of research investigations, clinical and scientific publications and Continuing Medical Education programs for todays dermatologists.
The Foundation is second only to the federal government as a source of funding for dermatologic research that addresses both medical and surgical practice concerns.
